I tried a Yakima Skybox 18 on for size yesterday. Anyone have experience with this size box on a WRX?

No firsthand experience. Just came here to say that looks disproportionate and may block your view of airplanes.

As long as you can lift your rear hatch. I had a Thule Cascade XT 1500 on my impreza and had to put padding on the box so the rear spoiler didn't get scratched on the box. I only used it for trips, took it off if I didn't need it.

Hah! I'm more concerned with blocking my view of stoplights.

My intention is to use it for camping trips. The last time we went camping, the car was a bit crowded.
We did open the hatch and there is a bit of overlap between the spoiler and the box. The guy at the shop suggested a tether to keep the hatch from opening all the way.

I have one, it works but you don't get style points. If you slide it all the way towards the rear of the car you won't be able to open the hatch very much. Also, it'll still hangs of the front of the roof a bit. I found mine on Craigslist for $150 (huge savings over new), then scrubbed it clean and re-spray painted it black because of the sun damage (Vegas). The space it gives is great and we put all our stickers on it that I don't put on the fairing.

Nice car. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Skybox.
I've been searching for a good deal, but the ones I have found are with owners who still think a five year old box is "like new".

Thanks! Keep at it, don't purchase a new one because they are too expensive for what it is. We've taken a couple road trips and camping trips with it up top. Take care on windy days as it will steer the car for you. No idea what it does to MPG's but who cares.

I can relate, camping with two kids and a Subaru Impreza, there were things in the spare tire hole, under the seats, in the map pockets. The Thule box made it much easier. Also be warned I don't think the impreza liked being that heavily loaded since it went through rear wheel bearings very regularly like once a year. I would hope the WRX/STi would be a bit more robust in that department.

Bearings? Wow. How often did you load it up?
I probably carry between 150 and 200 pounds of gear with the pop-up canopy and the cast-iron cookware. Much of that weight will be offloaded to the scout trailer once my son transitions to Boy Scouts. Our load will be limited to backpacks, plus any scouts I end up transporting. I guess I will be trading cast iron for people, so no weight savings....

How'd you get your taillights like that?

They're vinyl overlays, professionally done. DO NOT try the DIY kits... I've seen the horribleness and waste of time/money they are. I paid $100 and they were done on the spot in 20mins.
